Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli had announced to step down as the captain of this format even before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup. On Tuesday, the BCCI appointed Rohit Sharma as the new captain of the T20 team in his place. He will fulfill this responsibility only from the upcoming series to be played against New Zealand. Former Pakistan cricketer Mushtaq Ahmed has spoken about Virat's retirement from T20 cricket.
Mushtaq said on Pakistan's TV channel, "When a successful captain says that he wants to leave the captaincy, it means that everything is not going well in the dressing room. Right now I see two groups in the dressing room of the Indian team. One group is from Mumbai and the other is from Delhi.
Earlier, during the World Cup, former Pakistani fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar had also said that Team India would be divided into two parts. He said that Virat did wrong by saying that he would quit the captaincy before the tournament. He should not have done this, because of this his respect among the players has been reduced. The team seems to be divided into two camps at the moment.
